Coyote Power for Revology Mustang
Augusta, GA – A powerful new 420 hp engine is coming to the world’s first replica Mustang, built by Revology Cars, the Florida-based specialty automobile manufacturer.
After making headlines recently with the introduction of its brand-new and thoroughly updated replica of the original Ford Mustang, Revology announced today a new version of the car, featuring an even more powerful V8 engine, the Ford 5.0L Ti-VCT, commonly known as the “Coyote”.
The Coyote engine used in the Revology Mustang is a version of the same engine used in the 2015 Mustang GT. It features an aluminum block and heads and dual overhead cams with independent variable cam timing, and puts out 420hp and 390 lb ft of torque. The Coyote-powered Revology Mustang joins the model line-up above the 5.0L EFI V8 powered car, as the new flagship for the company.
Tom Scarpello, founder and CEO of Revology, says: “While the 5.0L EFI V8 in our base model offers excellent performance, some customers want even more. So we are giving it to them.”
The power to weight ratio of an automobile largely defines its performance characteristics. “The power to weight ratio of the Coyote-powered Revology Mustang will be identical to that of a Ferrari F355,” notes Scarpello. “The performance is really quite impressive, with this state-of-the-art engine in a classic Mustang body.”
Along with the new engine, the latest Revology Mustang model makes other significant advances. “You can’t just add power, and keep everything else the same,” says Nathan Loucks, Revology vehicle integration supervisor. “You have to methodically go through every sub-system of the car to be sure it is optimized for the revised power output.” A stiffened body, larger brakes, a heavier duty driveline and larger exhaust are among the modifications. One of the most noticeable changes is the standard 17-inch wheel on the Coyote-engined model. “We had to fit a much larger wheel and tire package with the Coyote, because without it, the car would be severely traction-limited. Also, the larger wheels allow for bigger brakes, which are a must with this kind of performance,” adds Loucks.
The Coyote engine is physically much larger than the 5.0L EFI V8, necessitating a re-think of the packaging in the narrow engine bay of the early Mustang. “It is a bit of a challenge,” says Dan Maas, Revology’s technical director. “It is easy to free up space by moving to a compromised front suspension design, but we didn’t go that route. We’ve managed to not only package the engine, but we’ve positioned it for optimal front/rear weight distribution and kept the superior suspension geometry that delivers the ride and handling of a modern car.”
The Coyote version of the Revology Mustang replica is available with either an electronically controlled automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. As in the base car, the front suspension is MacPherson strut and the rear end is a three-link design, with coil springs. Larger four-wheel disc brakes inspire confidence, while standard power rack and pinion steering provides excellent feedback. All of the modern creature comforts are featured, including remote keyless entry, power door locks, power windows, power seats, tilt steering column, intermittent wipers, digital message center, remote trunk release, and even Bluetooth, all carefully integrated into the interior to be minimally intrusive.
Like the 5.0L EFI powered car, the Revology Mustang Coyote is designed to be as reliable and easy to drive as a modern car.
Pricing for the Revology Mustang replica with Coyote power will be announced later this year. Scarpello notes that the increase over the base car’s starting price of $119,500 will be “reasonable and in line with customer expectations for such a unique specialty car.”
