Revology Delivers Track-Ready Performance with New R Spec model

The Revology 1968 Mustang GT 2+2 Fastback R Spec

Orlando, FL (September 2019) – Building on a series of performance enhancements to its reproduction original Mustangs, Revology Cars has developed its first track-focused model, the R Spec.

Revology CEO and founder, Tom Scarpello, explains that the R Spec is the natural evolution of the company’s M58 platform, itself a dramatically improved version of the original Mustang chassis.

“M58 is more than reengineering the original design; it is a complete departure from the original Mustang chassis configuration,” says Scarpello. “With a double wishbone front and 3-link rear, plus a significantly stiffer body structure, it accommodates modern, state of the art componentry for outstanding performance.  The R Spec shows what the M58 platform is capable of.”

The first production R Spec was built for an enthusiast client who wanted a track-oriented high performance Revology Mustang to use at his local circuit, Thermal, near Palm Springs, CA.  Based on the company’s ’68 Mustang 2+2 Fastback, the R Spec is powered by Ford’s 460hp 5.0-liter Ti-VCT DOHC ‘Coyote’ V-8, although it shares its front subframe, heavy-duty cooling system and driveline with Revology’s 600-hp supercharged GT500.

“The Coyote’s 7500rpm redline and naturally aspirated four-cam V8 gives the car a very different personality than the GT500, akin to a Porsche GT3 vs a 911 Turbo,” notes Scarpello.

Among the high-performance components unique to the R Spec are AP Racing brakes, similar to those used on the Ford Performance Mustang FP350S.  The brakes feature AP Racing’s Radi-CAL 6 piston calipers and 355mm slotted rotors in front and 4-piston calipers and 340mm rotors in the rear.  The brake package fills the Forgeline 17×10 forged aluminum wheels quite nicely.  In terms of suspension, the R Spec uses JRi shocks that are adjustable for compression and rebound.

To keep temperatures under control, the R spec’s heavy-duty cooling system features an all-aluminum three-core radiator and high output seven-blade cooling fan. Also the model’s standard external oil cooler uses a large 7.5 quart oil pan with a windage tray.  The oil filter from a Ford Super Duty diesel truck is needed because it is the only filter large enough to flow the required volume of oil through the cooler in racing conditions.

The R Spec comes with Revology’s highest specification rear axle assembly as standard (it is optional on lesser models).  The Ford 8.8-in ring and pinion features a 4.10 gear ratio and heavy-duty 33-spline axles. The Wavetrac limited slip differential can handle severe track duty yet is quiet on the street.

Inside, the R Spec boasts Revology’s first application of RECARO seats. “The car has prodigious grip and astonishing braking capability, so you really need the RECARO seats to keep you planted,” says Scarpello.
