Under the skin, a host of improvements make a Revology customer favorite even more appealing. Revology Cars, the Orlando, FL-based builder of reproduction original Ford Mustang and Shelby models, has released its newest model, the ‘68 Mustang GT convertible.
While Revology is well known for its ’65 and ’66 Mustang convertibles, the company announced last year that it was discontinuing those models to make room for new ones. The ’68 Mustang GT convertible is one of them—and it retains all the eye-pleasing charm of the original, while benefitting from an all-steel unibody built in-house, with automated spot welding equipment, seam welds and a specialty industry first—heat-cured structural adhesive.
Tom Scarpello, Revology CEO, says these improvements set the company apart from other specialty vehicle builders. “We are the only producer in the specialty industry to assemble every unibody with structural adhesive. In addition to all of the other unibody improvements, structural adhesive elevates the Revology Mustang unibody to a truly modern level of torsional rigidity. Structural adhesive also combats corrosion and improves crash performance.”
The Revology 1968 Mustang convertible unibody features the same unibody design as the company’s 1968 Shelby convertible models, the GT500KR and GT350. The Revology GT convertible unibody is assembled on a new framing fixture. Designed entirely in CAD, the new framing fixture controls all three dimensions within 0.7mm. This is a significantly tighter tolerance than any Mustang body from the 1960s.
“Tighter tolerances are important because they ensure that all parts fit properly, improving functionality as well as appearance of the body panels, with all panels neatly aligned with consistent gaps and flushness,” notes Scarpello.
Revology’s ‘68 GT convertible continues to offer the 460hp Ford 5.0L ‘Coyote’ V8 engine, paired with a choice of six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmissions.
Stopping power is provided by high performance power disc brakes featuring 12.8-in slotted and ventilated rotors with six-piston front, and four-piston rear calipers.
Tuned specifically for the Ford Coyote engine, the standard stainless steel dual exhaust system delivers a soft burble at idle and is quiet with no drone at cruise speed. The optional Performance Exhaust system features lower restriction mufflers to provide more power and a more aggressive tone.
All Revology Mustangs and Shelby GTs are equipped with a Ford 8.8″ rear end and Traction-Lok limited slip differential for quiet operation with superior durability. Unlike aftermarket gear sets, the 3.31 (A/T) and 3.73 (M/T) gear sets are Ford engineered and built at Ford’s Sterling Axle plant. Heavy duty 31-spline axles reliably transfer the car’s prodigious power to the pavement.
A precisely tuned double wishbone suspension and power rack and pinion steering deliver modern handling.
Inside the ‘68 GT convertible, power assisted features abound, including windows, seats, steering, and brakes. Keyless entry and push-button start with rolling code encryption enhance security. The Revology-designed full-length console features genuine Flat Cut Walnut trim, and the premium bucket seats are trimmed in Nappa leather. LED instrument and interior lighting enhances visibility and convenience at night.
All Revology interiors are cut, sewn, and fitted by hand, including seats, floor mats, dash pad, door panels, quarter trim panels, and sun visors. This old-world craftsmanship takes time but allows freedom to choose materials and colors to ensure not only a flawless appearance but also everyday durability. The company uses only automotive grade leather and other materials from premium OEMs including Porsche, Mercedes, and Ferrari.
Three point front seat belts, a dual circuit braking system, fuel shutoff inertia switch, collapsible steering shaft, and optional front seat head restraints help protect occupants in the event of a collision.
